In this exhibition, I explore the beauty of aging skin and challenge beauty ideals, particularly those imposed on women, which emphasize youth and smoothness.
These paintings are part of a larger art project, within which I declared wrinkles endangered on 17 March 2026.
In my paintings, aging skin, faces, hands, and bodies merge with various natural surfaces like wrinkled animal faces, tree bark and leaves, and the cracks of rock. Wrinkles are presented as endangered landscapes of humanity, at risk of disappearing under prevailing beauty ideals and an AI-saturated world that seeks to erase everything considered “imperfect” - precisely what ultimately makes us human. Humanity is imperfect, and nature is wrinkled.
The beauty of wrinkles is one of the elements that connects humans and nature - we are, after all, part of it.
I wish to invite viewers to question why wrinkles are often seen as less beautiful, while also offering an alternative to beauty ideals in which youth and smoothness dominate. I hope the exhibition opens new ways of seeing beauty, humanity, and aging - as well as wrinkles as a kind of human heritage.
About the artist
I am a Finland-based artist whose work explores perception, color, and the subtle ways reality is constructed in the viewer’s eye. Through painting, I investigate how what we see is never fixed, but constantly shaped by relationships; between colors, forms, light, and space.
I often work with intense colors and create layered compositions that generate shifting illusions, impressions and forms. At the heart of my practice lies an interest in relativity: color in relation to another color, form in relation to space, light in relation to shadow.
The human relationship with nature is central to my artistic process. I observe my surroundings primarily through color - tracing transitions between light and shadow, the rhythms of nature, the complex textures and layers of plant and animal life. For me, color is not just a tool of expression, but a way of thinking and structuring experience. When I paint, something intuitive and partly unconscious gradually takes form on the canvas.
I am fascinated by the moment when the viewer begins to question what they are seeing, and in doing so, begins to see more closely. Even the slightest shift in tone or rhythm can transform the entire impact of a work. Color, to me, is both emotion and architecture. It can trick the eye, blur edges, or make a flat surface appear deep. In a way it’s magic.
Through my art, I seek to create a space for pause, an invitation to reflect one’s own perceptions and assumptions - and to bring a touch of color’s magic dust into the world.
