Inspiration for the Line & Space painting sessions came from the MA (間) philosophy
The idea for the Line & Space painting sessions came from my own art, in which I apply Japanese philosophy and the aesthetic concept of MA (間).
MA refers to the space between things (a kind of negative space); a pause, rhythm, and breathing emptiness that allows life to breathe. In my Line & Space painting sessions, we explore empty space through brushwork, colour, environment, and sound
MA shows that growth only happens with enough space.
Growth always needs space, whether in nature, work, relationships, or creativity.
In Japanese, MA is written with the character 間, which consists of two parts: a door and the sun. Together, they describe the moment when sunlight peeks through a crack in the door.
It is not about the door itself or the light, but the space between them.
The moment where something can happen.
